Why would anyone want a network?

The primary reason is to share resources and the shared resources may include at least the following:

• Data about customers

• Data about receivables

• Printers

• Internet access

• Anti virus software

• Anti spam software

• Data backup system

Servers

Why would anyone want a server?  After all, I am just a small company and I know everyone takes good care of their information.

The primary reasons to have a server include at least:

• Have one place for all company data so it is automatically backed up every night

• To provide a place to hold all your data so everyone can share and have access to it real-time (not using the shoe leather express network with floppy disks and CDs)

• To manage spam and viruses

• To provide remote access so people can work from home

• To share calendars

• To share contacts

• To have all appropriate customer information available to those who need it - instantly
