Networks and Servers
Networks
Why would
anyone want a network?
The primary
reason is to share resources and the shared
resources may include at least the following:
-
Data about
customers
-
Data about
receivables
-
Printers
-
Internet
access
-
Anti virus
software
-
Anti spam
software
-
Data
backup system
Servers
Why would
anyone want a server? After all, I am just
a small company and I know everyone takes good
care of their information.
The primary
reasons to have a server include at least:
-
Have one
place for all company data so it is
automatically backed up every night
-
To provide
a place to hold all your data so everyone
can share and have access to it real-time
(not using the shoe leather express network
with floppy disks and CDs)
-
To manage
spam and viruses
-
To provide
remote access so people can work from home
-
To share
calendars
-
To share
contacts
-
To have
all appropriate customer information
available to those who need it - instantly
A Server is simply a
computer, typically configured as a server and
not a workstation, that does all or part of the
list noted above. In some cases it can
even run Windows XP and not Windows Server, if
all it does is share and backup files. To
